1. Know the odds of each game
Your chance of hitting the top prize depends on the game, not on the numbers you pick:
- Gosloto 4/20: 1 in 23,474,025
- Gosloto 5/36: 1 in 376,992
- Gosloto 6/45: 1 in 8,145,060
- Gosloto 7/49: 1 in 85,900,584
- Gosloto 5/50: 1 in 2,118,760
Gosloto 5/36 offers the shortest odds by a wide margin; 7/49 the longest.
2. Pick the game that suits you
Shorter odds usually mean smaller top prizes. If you prefer frequent small wins, a game like 5/36 fits; if you play for the big jackpot and accept long odds, 7/49 is the one. Draw frequency matters too — see the Gosloto timetable.
3. Avoid the most popular combinations
Birthdays, straight runs like 1-2-3-4-5 and neat patterns on the ticket are chosen by many players. They are no less likely to be drawn, but if they win, a shared prize is split between more people.
4. Treat hot and cold numbers as trivia
Each game page shows which numbers came up most and least often recently — for example the hot and cold 5/36 numbers. It is interesting to follow, but past frequency has no effect on the next draw.
5. Consider a group ticket
Playing as a syndicate lets you cover more combinations for the same personal spend. Agree in writing beforehand who paid what and how any prize will be shared.
6. Set a budget and stick to it
Decide in advance what you are happy to spend per week and never chase losses. If gambling stops being fun, call the National Responsible Gambling Programme on 0800 006 008.
7. Check every ticket — including old ones
Unclaimed prizes are surprisingly common. Use the draw number on your ticket and look it up in the past results search or the yearly archives.
